The Khorgos Dry Port: Where East meets West on the New Silk Road
The Khorgos Gateway, a sprawling dry port and Special Economic Zone (SEZ) on the China-Kazakhstan border, has emerged as the central operational node of the New Eurasian Land Bridge. Strategically positioned at one of the furthest points on Earth from any ocean, Khorgos is the critical link overcoming the historical "break of gauge" between China's standard-gauge (1,435 mm) and Kazakhstan's wide-gauge (1,520 mm) railway systems. This function has made it the primary conduit for overland trade between Asia and Europe, now handling approximately 80% of all container trains transporting Chinese goods westward.
